House Cleaning on the Corner
This evening was spent cleaning up the corner garden, moving things around and adding some new plants.
Several weeks back I bought a 'Angelart Cherry' nemesia, 3 iridescent hot pink 'Jewelbox Mix' Cockscombs and a single yellow 'Kimono Mix' Plume Cockscomb at Turner's.I thought they'd look great on the north end of the society garlic, but I first had to move the 'end' of the garlic back toward the center as I had it far too spread out. Unfortunately I had to also move one of the glad bulbs I planted (and it had already sprouted), along with several yellow johnny-jump-ups and numerous mauve pansies.
Next I moved the single 'Corona Cherry Magic' dianthus, that was growing on the SW corner, over to a blank space toward the NE corner, numerous yellow / black faced pansies from the SE corner to the center east side, mostly alond the edge of the society garlic.
Then it was time to move 3 volunteer 'Blue Bedder' salvia from the west side and 2 by the 'new plants' over to the SE corner. Along the SE edge I planted 2 slightly separated gallon containers of bulbine and then broke a third container into 6-8 plants and planted them in random places in the SE corner/guy wire area.
As I digging around by the guy wires I noticed that although the new growth on the Stella d'Oros is only inches tall and looking might pale most had sent up flower spikes. Those got lopped off immediately!
I had hoped to break up the 4-5 gazanias I have growing on the west side and plant them along the west edge of the society garlic, as well as get in the 6 dianthus and 12 red salvia I bought several weeks ago, but after pulling up buttercups by the hands full and various other weeds I just ran out of steam.
Instead I broke open the bag of blooming fertilizer granuales Ernest bought for me last year (and I never used), sprinkled them about liberally, turned the soaker hose on and went in the house for the evening.
