Transplanting Seedlings
On Friday I started transplanting some of the many seedlings I've got growing. I got 60 Candletree seedlings and a dozen or so Desert Willows (seeds we got in Anthony or Heather got at Hope Hospice) before we were called out on a job to Fourchon.
Finally getting all my laundry done today I got back to my seedlings, finishing the willows for a total count of 56 or 58. I also was able to divide and transplant (before running out of soil) the 18 Butterfly Weed Margie gave me in Feb.
With all the new seedlings in the hoop house I was forced to rearrange a large number of plants to make room. Surprisingly the Society Garlic and Bat-Faced Cupheas, and not surprisingly the Umbrella Plants, had all put roots into the ground. When I rearranged the plants I slipped the Umbrella Plants into a solid bottom tray. I guess the next project will be to get some bigger pots for them since I wasn't able to sell them at the Botanical Garden's plant sale this weekend.
The Society Garlic will be going into the ground next week, along with all the 'Silky Gold' Butterfly Weed in the hoop house. (I slipped a tile under them to keep them from setting roots into the ground, too.)
I also brought the other Dessert Willows into the hoop house as they are looking really bad.
Tomorrow I'll get a couple bags of soil at Wal-Mart and transplant some of the hibiscus seedlings so I can take one to silverflutter at the Round Up this weekend. Once back home I'm going to have to make time to get all the other seedlings into individual pots.
Speaking of the other seedlings - last week one of the Bird of Paradise seeds sprouted! This week it's around 4" tall. I am sooo excited!!
Sometime early last week I stayed up late and rearranged all the plants on the patio and some in the yard. I transfered all the brugs to tables and the chaise out at the back fence line under the trees. They seem to really like it there as they aren't using near as much water nor are they drooping.
I also grouped all the tall purple ruellia out there so that should they blow seeds it won't be near the problem as they would be in the center of the yard.
I put all the Society Garlic in pots (save for the original) on the backside of the garage. Hopefully next week we can get them into the ground, along with the 'Silky Gold' Butterfly Weed. I also put the pink Ruellia and the Bulbine there, as well. I think we'll put at least the Bulbine on the east side of the garage along with the Agapanthus.
Funny thing, the only plants that wilted, out of all the plants I moved, were all the Ruellias.
I've stripped seeds off the 'Coral Nymph' salvia a few more times and sprinkled them into the lupine tray. Not sure it's the 'Coral Nymph' seeds, but something is up thick in that tray...
The mums are blooming like crazy.

So are the roses.

The co-op lilies seem to be through for this year. Friday I pulled up all the spent plantss and will put the bulbs in peat until this fall.
The 'Quito' lilies I planted in the new front bed started blooming last week! I'll try to get a picture of them and post it tomorrow.
